Ethan Muendo, the seven-month-old infant who died after an overdose prescription at Shalom Community Hospital in Machakos might be buried without a brain.
According to pathologists, the infant's brain appeared swollen and has been taken for medical tests.
"The boy's body is ready for burial but we have taken his brain for more tests which may take up to two weeks," said the family pathologist Dr Daniel Zuria.
The two pathologists, Dr Waithera Githendu from government and Dr Zuria informed Ethan's father, Jonathan Musau Mutiso about the move.
"We have informed the family about the brain tests since other body parts are fit but the brains look a bit swollen due to alleged intoxication," said Dr Zuria after postmortem results conducted on Tuesday.
Ethan was injected with an overdose of morphine which doctors said was 20 times more than what should have been administered.
Zuria while speaking exclusively to Hivisasa said that samples of boy's brain, liver and somebody fluid have been taken for further checks at the government chemists to establish the chemicals in them.
The postmortem which took place at Montezuma funeral home in Machakos indicated that Ethan died from reduced oxygen supply which led to respiratory depression.
Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua together with the KMPDU CEO Daniel Yumbya ordered for the closure of Shalom Hospital and revoked both its business permit and operational license.
It's still not clear whether the family can go ahead and bury baby Ethan.
