Two legendary High Schools in Kisumu could be moved out the city centre in the near future.
The move follows the county government’s plan to open up new commercial areas in the Lakeside town.
Earlier this week, Kisumu Governor Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o disclosed that the ongoing geo-mapping of the lakeside city has identified a number of changes required to achieve economic strength.
Kisumu Boys and Girls High schools are located opposite the busy main bus park, a few metres from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports ground.
Meanwhile, Kisumu residents and investors who constructed on land allocated for road expansion and riparian land have every reason to get worried, after Governor Nyong’o announced plans to demolish structures on road reserves, and riparian land starting as early as next week, in what may be compared to demolitions currently on-going in Nairobi.
While commissioning the construction of the Impala-Dunga road, Nyong’o gave the contractors the permission to demolish any structure that may interfere with the road construction process.
“Right now the environment committee is in place, and the law must be implemented. Bring down anything that may hinder the construction of this road. Should anyone complain tell them to come to my office," Nyong’o was quoted by the Standard.
