An interview conducted on July 14, 2007, records that Ngilu’s lawyer Mwema Malonza, a long-serving Kitui branch party official claimed her late husband Michael Mwendwa Ngilu had promised to back him or any other willing candidate from the region to oppose Ngilu's election.

The husband, who died while undergoing treatment in South Africa on July 2, 2006, had allegedly said he would finance Malonza to take over power.

“Mzee Ngilu had before his death promised to offer financial support to one of us to oppose his wife in this year’s elections,” he said in part.

The remarks angered Ngilu to the point that she decided to fire Malonzo after they disagreed over the will.

It emerged that the deceased’s will could not be located even after the lawyer promised to bring it forth.

Despite the challenges Ngilu had faced since she entered the political arena, she has struggled to make things right.

Ngilu has been very vocal on matters affecting her people.

The county boss has pledged to work with other leaders to ensure former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka ascends to power.
