US First Lady Melania Trump touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Thursday evening where she was received by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
The high-profile visit is the first by a US first lady.
While the visit has highlighted the causes that are close to Melania's heart, it has also laid bare what sets her apart from her predecessor Michelle Obama.
During her eight-year stint as the first lady, Michelle snubbed Kenya in 2015 when Obama made his maiden trip as president of the US.
For many Kenyans, her snub of the home of her husband's ancestors is a demonstration of her attitude toward Kenya.
Interestingly, when Obama visited Tanzania in 2013, Michelle accompanied him but when it was Kenya's time she was conspicuously absent.
In Obama's post-presidential visit this year, Michelle failed to show up again in spite of her husband's promise in 2015 that she would visit Kenya after the presidency.
News reports indicate that she left for the US after a week of merry-making in Tanzania to be with her friend Beyonce.
Being with Beyonce was better than joining her husband in his post-presidential visit.
Melania has chosen to include Kenya in her first visit to the African continent, something that Ms Obama spectacularly failed to do in eight years
It is a powerful demonstration of the special place that Kenya holds in Melania's heart.
For that gesture, Melania is way better than Michelle, Kenyans would argue.
