Passengers in Nairobi were subjected to a horrific scare after the matatu they were traveling in burst into flames Wednesday morning.
The 14-seater matatu caught fire at the Huruma Flats area a few minutes to nine in the morning.
Passengers however escaped unhurt.
The matatu which is said to belong to Pin Point Sacco was moving from Kariobangi Raunda to Eastleigh when the incident occurred.
James Muigai, driver and owner of the matatu, said that he heard an explosion and then saw the fire.
"Niliskia mlipuko na gari ikaanza kuchomeka (I heard an explosion and the vehicle burst into flames)," Muigai said.
"Some of them (passengers) jumped through the windows," he added.
In April last year, a private car burst into flames at Kibera's Makina area and follow-up reports by authorities said that the owner was transporting gas cylinders illegally.
