Police in Mwingi, Kitui County are looking for a pastor who allegedly defiled and impregnated a class, seven pupil.
Steven Masila of the Arising Christian Ministries is allegedly said to have defiled the minor, a pupil at Nzawa Primary School in August 2017.
In her statement with the police in Mwingi, the minor claims she was waylaid and defiled by the pastor on August 12, 2017, while she was cleaning the church.
The minor told police that the pastor warned her against telling anyone on what had happened.
“The pastor found me washing the church and raped me warning me not to disclose to anyone," she stated in her statement with the police.
The victim’s mother, Rose Mwende said they confronted the pastor after the minor gave birth but he denied responsibility.
Mwende said the pastor threatened them claiming that the minor had been sent to tarnish his name.
She said the pastor was well known to her daughter.
“What we want is justice for my daughter and also the man to be responsible for this baby,” Mwende said.
Mwende said her daughter's education was cut short.
She vowed not to stop until justice was done.
Efforts by this writer to get the pastor’s comments were futile as his phone went unanswered.
According to a police officer at Mwingi Police post who sought anonymity on grounds that he is not allowed to speak to the media, investigations into the allegations is underway.
Mwingi children’s officer Joseph Katiku said his office had received a complaint and is following up the matter.
There has been an increase in defilement cases across Kitui and other parts of the country in the recent days.
Children activists are now urging the government to crack the whip on defilers and guarantee the safety of teenagers who are in school.
