Deputy President William Ruto will be treated like any other aspirant for the Jubilee Party presidential ticket come 2022, the party Secretary General Rapahel Tuju has declared.

Speaking on Citizen TV's News Night on Tuesday night, Tuju added that Ruto will be subjected to a nomination exercise before being handed the party presidential ticket, if he wins.

The Cabinet Secretary without portfolio noted that the DP is well aware of the party constitutional requirement, and has already accepted that he will take the challenge.

"He has stated that he will follow the party constitution which states very clearly how we come to decide who will be the party candidate and has gracefully accepted that he will allow himself to be subjected to that party democratic process," said Tuju.

He pointed out that the presidential race should not be taken as a matter of life and death for the DP, as he (Ruto) has personally made it clear that his presidency is not a must.

He noted that Ruto is not desperate to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, and has repeatedly said that he will accept defeat in either the party primaries or the main polls.

"The Deputy President himself has been extremely modest, he is not desperate to be the president in 2022," added Tuju.

However, so far, no other candidate has come out to seek the Jubilee ticket for the same race, as is the case in the main elections where though a number of politicians have declared their interest, none has officiated their bid.
