Governor Obado together with his personal assistant, Michael Oyamo, and the Migori county clerk, Caspal Obiero were being charged with the murder of his Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

However, following the application by DPP Haji, the trio will now be charged with the murder of Sharon’s seven-month foetus.

Obado’s aides were being charged at a different court but the court allowed consolidation of their cases into one.

The DPP told the court that according to the constitution, life begins at conception and, therefore the governor should be charged with the alleged murder of the seven-month foetus.

Postmortem examination on Sharon’s body indicated that she had succumbed to excessive bleeding after being stabbed several times.

The DPP said according to postmortem report, the foetus died as a result of stab wounds on the right side through its mother’s womb.

The report further revealed that DNA results confirmed that Obado was the biological father of the unborn baby.

Justice Jessie Lesiit directed that the three who pleaded not guilty to the two counts of murder be detained at Industrial Area Remand Prison until October 12 when the court will hear their bail application.
