A young dedicated missionary, Father Cosmas Omboto's death shocked many of those who worked closely with him.
Bishop Joseph Mairura described the death as 'setback' to the local and international community, adding that it will take a long time for him to come into terms.
"I saw him growing in church in Gusii. A very dedicated young soul. I even ordained him. It's painful to die while serving God."
Omboto, who was born in Gucha in 1985, moved to Cameroon in 2017 March after being ordained as Mill Hill priest.
At Cameroon, Bishop Andrew Nkea recalls, he was posted to St Martins Tours Parish, Kembong church where he was killed on Wednesday.
But troubles started in his new station in 2017 December after government forces started running battles with secessionists anglophones in South West.
"He came back to Mamfe but left in April this year with hundreds of villagers who had run from the war prone region. I didn't want them to return there."
Bishop Nkae further says Father Was killed on Wednesday at Kembong Catholic church where he was supervising cleaning.
As government soldiers fired indiscriminately, the helpless Father moved around asking catechists and church members around to hide behind the church before he met the bullet.
"He was shot in front of the church when running for safety. He had asked faithfuls to hide behind the church before he met the bullet," Nkea said.
