There was drama at Kisii County's Daraja Mbili market, on Monday afternoon after a woman was found stealing underwears.
Witnesses said Mary Onyinkwa was nabbed stealing underwear when she pretended to be a customer.
"I sell underwear at the market. The suspect came and started picking underwear with other customers. I realized the ones she picked were missing and she had not paid. I asked her to pay but she denied and we searched her handbag and found 5 underwear in the handbag," said Jane Ongeri, a trader.
She said she alerted other traders who came and started beating up the woman.
It took the intervention of boda-boda riders who rescued the woman from the jaws of death.
"I had parked my motorbike at Daraja mbili market when I heard screams. I mobilizsd other riders and rushed to the scene where the woman was being beaten. We rescued her and took her to Dajara Mbili health clinic for treatment," said Johannes Onsombi, a rider.
Robert Ombati, the clinic operates said the woman sustained serious injuries on her neck, head, and hands.
Ombati said the woman should undergo a scan to establish if her head was severely demanded during the ordeal.
The suspect is said to have been robbed her mobile phone and handbag during the attack.
