At Rusinga Schools, Maraga passionately told learners how he struggled to make it in life, revealing that he first wore shorts at the age of 10 after circumcision.

"Having been born into a rather poor family in Nyamira, I got to wear my first pair of shoes when I was admitted to Secondary School, and that was only because it was compulsory. Worse still, I got to wear my first pair of shorts only after circumcision, at the age of 10.

"It is perhaps a good thing that those were not the days of today’s pervasive selfies and paparazzi, otherwise I wonder what pictures of the Chief Justice as a young man would be circulating in the social media today. There is one I took with my first car, a Volkswagen beetle which looks interesting. Perhaps I should have it tweeted it," he said.

The speech however looks almost similar to the one he delivered at Catholic University in later October during graduation ceremony.

A reformed Maraga, he narrated, quit from drinking after 20 years, long after his graduation from the University of Nairobi in 1977. He would do his masters degree 34 years later.

At home, Maraga, who hails from the same region as Governor John Nyagarama in Bonyamatuta, is widely celebrated given that he's he first Kenyan from the region to hold the office.

He's an staunch Christian and rarely misses Church on Saturdays, given his background from Seventh Day Adventist, a church popular in South Nyanza.
