Police in Tanzania are probing an incident in which unknown gunmen abducted a Kenyan businessman in Dar es Salam, on Monday.

The businessman, Mr Raphael Ongangi was reportedly abducted by three armed men in Oysterbay area, Tanzania.

Reports indicate that the businessman's wife reported the matter to local authorities, and the Kenyan High Commission in Tanzania, after which investigations were launched.

Confirming the incident, Kenyan High Commissioner to Tanzania Dan Kazungu said his office was working with the police to safely secure the abducted businessman.

“We are aware of the incident and working around the clock and will be sharing progress reports on this matter,” he said as quoted by Standard.

The motive for the abduction is yet to be established, since it is still not clear whether the abductors contacted the family after abducting the businessman.

Reports on Standard indicate that Ongangi has been running a transport business between Dar es Salam, DRC Congo, Zambia and Rwanda.
