Former Neno Evangelism Ministry Bishop Robert Wafula has an emotive background.
Besides his resignation from a church run by his longtime friend Pastor James Ng’ang’a, he has a history that is full of inspiration. He rose from a toilet cleaner to a clergyman who was sought by the mighty personalities.
Wafula had no secondary education when he relocated from Bungoma County in Western Kenya to the port city of Mombasa. His Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) qualifications enabled him to get a job as a toilet cleaner at D.S Trived from July 1992 to May 1994.
He later secured another job as a security guard at Samanje Ltd between 1994 June to 1996 June.
However, his LinkedIn account states that he managed to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at Tom Mboya Secondary School.
Wafula joined Ng’ang’a’s Neno Evangelism that he formed after a dark past. He was lured by the latter's exceptional preaching.
Wafula attended services in his security guard uniform due to lack of time but still attracted Ng’ang’a’s attention. They became friends and the controversial pastor left the Mombasa church under the watch of Wafula as he moved to Nairobi to open another church in 2000. The church had 6000 members and the number grew bigger under Wafula.
Unfortunately, the two have parted ways after 20 years of the association over what Pastor Ng’ang’ claims is lack of respect.
“I wish to welcome you for the school of prayers service this Tuesday at Mombasa Women Hall from 5.30pm. We shall not hold the lunch hours service at the venue, with due respect we have let our brother from Neno Mombasa under the leadership of the servant of God Reverend James Maina to utilise the facility for their lunch service. May God bless you reverend and welcome to Mombasa sir,” Wafula’s post read, after opening his Shalom Miracle Church, as quoted by Nation.
