Mohammed says the new system should be adopted and operationalized by universities beginning this September.

Speaking at Moi University main campus in Kesses, Uasin Gishu county during the 36th graduation ceremony on Friday, the Education CS said university students will only get funding from governments' parastatal, Helb, through the smart card solution.

“Starting September this year, all universities must adopt and operationalize the Helb smart card solution,” directed Amb. Mohammed.

“We have said this before and I hope that by the end of September, no university will be using the systems that they are currently in,” she added.

The new system is expected to take effect even as universities across the country are set to admit at least 69,000 new students in September.

Earlier this week, Amb. Mohammed had also directed that Technical and Vocational Training (TVET) institutions implement the Helb smart card solution by December 31st this year.

According to the ministry of Education, the use of the Helb smart card solution will ensure the effective and efficient management of funds that have been invested in the education sector by the government.
