South Sudan, Africa's youngest nation, has been struggling to promote peace following years of conflict between state forces and rebels allied to former Vice President Dr Riek Machar.

While he didn't explicitly give the deliberations on the ongoing conflict, Senator Moi however, said the two discussed much about impending unitary government between Kiir and Mr Machar due May this year.

"I am glad to have paid a courtesy call on South Sudan President, H.E Salva Kiir at Statehouse Juba. Our engagement ranged from the ongoing peace building processes to the desire for long lasting stability in South Sudan because of its strategic location in our region," he said.

"We have agreed to deepen our working relationship and unify the different parties forming the transitional government in May so that the process is seamless," added the Senate ICT chairman.

Kenya has continued to play a major role towards stability of South Sudan and was credited for pushing for her independence from Khartoum. Throughout the conflict, Nairobi also hosted a number of refugees from Juba.

While it's not clear who had assigned senator Moi such State roles, he has however been working closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga. He's also a lead candidate in Kenyatta succession.

After 2017 elections, Senator Moi was also seen receiving Presidents Kiir and Yoweri Museveni, further raising questions about his role in government. His father, Daniel Moi, led Kenya for 24 years.
