Dozens of people are believed to have succumbed to their injuries on Tuesday following a deadly explosion in the outskirts of Mogadishu, a region manned by KDF soldiers.
Mogadishu based Voice of America Journalist Harun Maruf said at least four people could be counted at the scene of the attack but the casualties could be more based on initial reports about food distribution exercise.
Badly dismantled vehicles were spotted at the site, with reports indicating that a suicide bomber had seized the place moments before the explosion.
"Explosion has occurred at the headquarters of Mogadishu’s Wardhiigley district a short while ago, casualties feared - source. Dry food distribution was taking place at the compound when the explosion erupted according to early reports," he wrote.
"At least four people were killed following a VBIED explosion at Wardhiigley district HQs during food distribution to poor families - sources. Photos show aftermath of the explosion," added the veteran journalist.
Wardhiigley District is under surveillance of KDF and allied troops from Uganda and Rwanda. For weeks now, Mogadishu has been handling a series of explosions waged by Al-Shabaab.
Last week, AMISOM soldiers distributed food stuffs in several regions across Somalia for commencement of the Holly month of Ramadhan. Several Al-Shabaab militants had surrended earlier on.
"Ramadan is about compassion, humanity, and kindness. In the photos, #AMISOM troops share a light moment with children at a food distribution centre during a distribution exercise in Loikoley village in Lower Jubba this week," KDF said.
Kenya is planning to pull out soldiers from Somalia by 2021, a move that has not gone well with the Somalia government. Last month, there were reports that KDF had pulled out of Gedo. No soldier was injured during the Tuesday explosion.
