Last season's Sportpesa Premier League champions Gor Mahia, enhanced their chances of defending their trophy on Monday after opening a 9-points gap at the top of the table.
Gor Mahia now has 58 points, 9 ahead of Sofapaka, who is in the second place with 49 points.
Gor achieved this when they downed the fierce Ulinzi Stars by two goals to one. The match was played on Monday at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
In the match, Gor was able to score a goal on each half to emerge winners.
Their manager actually, admitted that it was hard to beat Ulinzi at home having drawn the first leg in Kisumu.
“Every match Gor is playing is rough, tough and hard, but as a team, we are prepared for the challenge as our ultimate goal is to retain the title,” Gor coach Hassan Oktay said.
Gor was able to score at the early minutes after kick off regardless of the heavy downpour that preceded the match.
The goal was scored by Erisa Ssekisambu following beautiful play between Nicholas Kipkurui and Wellington Ochieng.
Ulinzi Stars equalized in the 76th minute following a corner. However, a late goal from Samuel Onyango ensured that Gor bagged all the three points.
