Today's star in the music industry has a humbling past that many would not believe.

He was born and raised in the sprawling slums of Mathare but conquered all the hardship to become one of the most celebrated artists in East Africa.

His childhood life was not as easy as you may think; it took a lot of patience, hard work and determination to reach where he is today.

What most of you don't know is that Willy Paul dropped out of school while in Form Two, due to school fees challenges. At that time, he had lost his father who was the sole breadwinner.

He decided to venture into music after trying all odds to survive. His biggest breakthrough was after he released the hit song Sitolia in collaboration with gospel music icon, Gloria Muliro.

The song topped charts across East Africa. It marked the beginning of his journey to stardom.

Despite his dropping out of school, he has beaten all odds to earn a spot among the highest paid artists in Kenya. He has collaborated with top international artists acts like Alaine, Sauti Sol, Harmonize and Nandy from Tanzania.

He recently opened a multi-million recording studio called Saldido records. He enjoys his rides in a  battery of sleek and high-end cars.
