Police officers in Kirinyaga have launched a manhunt for a murder suspect who is alleged to have killed his friend over avocados.
The suspect is said to have stabbed the colleague who also doubles up as his business partner outside a local bar in Kibai Village, Rung’eto Sub Location, Gichugu Constituency in Kirinyaga County on Wednesday night.
According to eyewitnesses, a confrontation ensued between the two after the suspect demanded to know why the deceased, 28-year-old Bedan Muriithi, was selling his avocadoes without his permission.
The suspect then allegedly stabbed Muriithi twice with a kitchen knife, blaming him for ruining his business before fleeing, Citizen Digital has reported.
According to the deceased relatives, the suspect has been engaging in criminal activities in the village.
Enraged locals and residents later reacted by invading the suspect's home and burned down his house.
The body of the deceased has since been moved to the Gakwegori Mortuary in Embu County.
