Speaking in his constituency on Sunday, Arama termed Ngunjiri as a straight forward person who always speaks his mind.

“Ngunjiri is not only a Member of Parliament for Bahati but he is also the chairman of the region’s MPs and recently he was installed as the spokesperson of the Kikuyu community,” said Arama.

Ngunjiri, who was also in attendance, hit at those opposed to his installation adding that it is because of the role he has played as a peace ambassador in the Rift Valley that earned him the position.

He called on Kenyans to shun leaders that are out to destroy the peace experienced.

“There is a lot of propaganda going around but the question I am asking where were they when there was no peace in this area? I was the one who ensured peace by talking to communities,” said Ngunjiri.

A day after his coronation as Kikuyu community spokesperson in the region, a section of Kikuyu council of elders rubbished the move.

The elders claimed the MP does not fit in the shoes of such a leader.

"As Kikuyu council of elders, we do not recognize MP Ngunjiri as the Kikuyu community spokesperson neither do we recognize such a position," said the caucus' chair Ndung'u Gaithuma.

The elders also slammed those who oversaw the exercise and termed them fake elders.
