Finance CEC Francis Maliti said the executive has released over Sh95 million meant for MCAs and the Machakos County Assembly's staff who have not received their salaries for the last two months.

In a statement circulated to media houses, Maliti said the county government has always been ready to release the funds.

The deputy governor said the Alfred Mutua's led administration's only confusion arose when the assembly passed a motion to remove him from the finance docket.

"There was legal dilemma as to whether I could sign the requisite forms when still under impeachment process. We are happy that the court has issued orders staying the Assembly resolution hence the decision for me to approve the funds on behalf of the assembly. I have now approved over Sh95 million to the assembly to cater for allowances and salaries," reads the statement in part.

Maliti said the assembly will continue to perform it's legal mandate of ensuring transparency and accountability in the usage of public resources.

He said an audit will be conducted and urged the MCAs who had irregularly received more allowances to start repaying.

"It will be prudent for those who know they are culpable to start repaying what they have received unfairly," Maliti said.

Maliti urged the MCAs to work for the benefit of Machakos people.

"The Assembly must also work for the the great people of Machakos. The assembly can't be allowed to only be passing monies for their salaries and allowances and refusing to pass development for the people," he said.

The MCAs have been complaining that the executive had withheld their salaries and allowances for two months.
