Drama emerged in Jombo village in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County, on Sunday after an elderly illicit liquor brewer stripped naked to avoid arrest.
The incident happened when a contingent of chiefs raided the den in line with an ongoing campaign to rid the area of the illicit brew, forcing her to act and think quickly.
The woman reportedly dashed to the toilet and stripped naked which made it hard for the male administrators to arrest her, forcing them to call in female police officers.
“We could not have arrested the suspect while naked. We had to call female police officers to arrest her,” one of the chiefs who participated in the raid told the Standard.
Confirming the incident, area Police Commander Monica Kimani said that the suspect was later taken into custody after being forced to put on her clothes.
The security team arrested several suspects who were at the scene at the moment and also destroyed 1,500 litres of the brew locally referred to as Pasha and Mbagara as part of the ongoing campaign to clear the county which has been grappling with the menace for long.
Deputy County Commissioner Damaris Kimondo who was also part of the team said that the campaign has seen 21 suspects arrested and charged and this month.
More than 8,000 litres of the liquor has also been confiscated in the ongoing exercise.
