A hostel project initiated in 2013 and halted in 2015 after the deadly Garissa University terrorist attack is in the final stages of completion.
According to Meru Mwangi, the chairman of the development committee, the project is 80 per cent complete while the perimeter wall is 95 % complete.
"We were able to monitor the development of the wall they have embarked on and we were happy to see the project is now 95% complete because it is a very important gesture because it deals with the security of the institution, " Mwangi said.
The project was resumed on in 2016 and the contractors were paid over 450 million shillings to cater for the costs that they had incurred over the delays.
About 750 students will be served by the project which was initiated with the aim of dealing with the accommodation crisis that Garissa University grappled with.
It will also put the university in a position where it can admit more students. Security has been at the heart of the project.
In 2015, nearly 150 students lost their lives when armed Al-Shabaab militants stormed the higher education institution under the cover of darkness and unleashed deadly terror on innocent students.
