It appears that President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally settled on giving back to Luo Nyanza after his warm reception in the region late last year.
After the unbelievable warm welcome when he toured the region's Kisumu and Siaya counties late last year in the company of the region's kingpin Raila Odinga, the head of state promised to steer development in the region after it dropped its initial opposition of to his leadership.
As a result, his Cabinet has been focused at initiating and supervising projects in Raila's Nyanza home turf have had visits to the region and several meetings organised with the region's leaders.
The projects being spearheaded include constructing roads, clearing the hyacinth chocking parts of Lake Victoria and boosting security, this probably including the erection of streetlights.
A whooping Kshs 15 billion has been allocated to dredging and expansion of the Lake Victoria port.
Also in the list is the expansion of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga mausoleum into an education centre.
Expansion of the Kabunde and Lichote airstrips in Migori have will also be considered in the next budget.
A week ago his Cabinet Secretaries Najib Balala(Tourism), Keriako Tobiko (Environment) and Raphael Tuju (CS without portfolio) were in the region, to supervise, and initiate projects as proof of his commitment to keeping his part of the bargain.
Balala while addressing the residents of Kisumu said that the commander-in-chief has issued a directive that the projects be up and running within the next year.
Speaking in Bondo also, he said that Uhuru is also committed to eradicating underdevelopment in the region.
Let it also not be forgotten that the same comes only a year after his truce with opposition leader Raila Odinga hence the reason why the initiatives are coming up thick and fast in the region.
