Leaders from Nakuru and Bomet counties have called on MPs to stop politicizing the ongoing maize debate in the country.
Led by Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, the leaders said it was unethical for a bunch of leaders to use maize to settle political scores.
Governor Lee said the MPs spearheading the backlash on Deputy President William Ruto should instead offer solutions to the farmers’ woes.
He warned the MPs; Alfred Keter of Nandi Hills, Joshua Kutuny of Cherangany and Silas Tiren of Moiben that their sentiments might make farmers shun maize leading to another shortage.
“We should not politicize the ongoing debate on maize. As leaders instead, we should focus on solutions to help our farmers” said Governor Lee.
The Governor was speaking at Chepseon, Salgaa village in Rongai Constituency, Nakuru when he joined other leaders for the burial of the late Pastor Wilson Kimalel Chumo.
Mzee Chumo was a father to Mosop Ward MCA Daniel Mutai.
Nakuru Women MP Liza Chelule said the MPs were insincere in their spirited fight and were out for political gains other than assisting the already depressed farmers.
Bomet Deputy Governor Hillary Barchok said DP Ruto remains a preferred candidate for the 2022 elections and warned the three north Rift MPs that Kenyans are watching their moves.
Governor Kinyanjui went to the rescue of the DP over latest criticism that he was making rounds in the country campaigning arguing that he was enhancing development as anchored in the Big 4 Agenda.
The Governor revealed that he has successfully lobbied for a variation of contract on the ongoing dualling of the 14 kilometres Salgaa- Kubunja section to include construction of a trucks parking yard at Salgaa.
