While addressing hundreds of Kainuk residents, the DP said that he had ordered the contractor constructing the Kainuk Bridge to give the locals all the menial jobs and not outsiders.

Dr Ruto ordered that only technical work that cannot be done by the locals be given to outsiders.

"Nimeambia huyo kontrakta ambaye anafanya hio kazi ya Kainuk, kazi yote ya mkono ipewe watoto wa hapa Kainuk. Hiyo kazi yote ipewe watu wa Kainuk.Kazi ambayo inahitaji ujuzi ambayo hawana ndio ipewe watu wengine."

(I have spoken with the contractor building the Kainuk Bridge and told him to give the locals all the menial jobs. All those jobs should be given to the people of Kainuk. Only jobs for which locals lack the requisite skills should be given to outsiders), " the DP said while standing through the sunroof of the car that carried him.

His announcement was greeted with a sustained applause and cheers from the locals who turned up in their numbers to hear him speak.

DP Ruto revealed that millions of shillings had been pumped into constructing the bridge that would last for many years.

The Kainuk Bridge has undergone numerous renovations before and it is hoped the construction of a new and more robust bridge will obviate the need for future repairs.
