Ex-Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has some warning for his current 2022 preferred presidential candidate Deputy President William Ruto on the mistake he should not do as 2022 approaches.
During an interview with Toni Gachoka at KTN Point blank, the former Ikolomani Member of Parliament said the greatest mistake Ruto can make now is to wait for endorsement from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He noted that other presidential hopefuls like former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi are doing the same mistake currently.
He advised the DP to get out and lay his plan as early as possible.
"Williams Ruto should not make the same mistake Raila Odinga, MusalianMudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka are making, that is, waiting for endorsement from Uhuru Kenyatta. He should roll up his sleeves," Khalwale opined.
During Jubilee campaigns in 2013 and 2017, there was a clear agreement within Jubilee that President Uhuru Kenyatta will rule for ten years and leave it for deputy president Ruto who will also lead for ten years.
However, since 2017 re-election, President Uhuru Kenyatta has maintained a low key as far as 2022 succession politics are concerned that has raised questions whether he is still in support of DP Ruto's 2022 presidency.
The pronouncement by former Jubilee party vice-chairman David Murathe that DP Ruto's 2022 bid is not guaranteed has led to Jubilee being split into two, team Kieleweke and team tangatanga.
DP Ruto has been laying his ground through his tangatanga team with the Kieleweka side insisting they are supporting the handshake.
