Two men from Rikura village, Omonono area, Borabu District in Nyamira county were on Wednesday arrested for allegedly assaulting their brother's wife after a heated quarrel.
Area chief Joseph Nyagetiria confirmed the incident and said the suspects identified as Nyarige and Omwoyo attacked the woman ,Magdalene Nyansiaboka, with a machete.
"The suspects stormed Nyansiaboka's house armed with a machete and started attacking her claiming that she biwitched her husband.
"Luckily, neighbours who heard a commotion in the house rushed to the homestead and rescued the victim from the jaws of death," he said.
Chief Nyagetiria noted that angry members of the public descended on the suspects with kicks and blows before community policing members rescued them later on.
"The victim sustained serious panga injuries. She is admitted at Ekerenyo Level 4 hospital where she is fighting for her life while the suspects were frog-marched and taken to Nyamira police station," he added.
The chief urged locals to embrace peaceful means to solve family wrangles.
The victim, speaking from her hospital bed, claimed that her brothers-in-law want her to separate with her husband.
"I've never used 'kamuti' as they claim. They only want me to separate with their brother," she stated.
