The trip will be part of rallying behind the handshake with opposition leader Raila Odinga besides fulfilling his promise when he visited Kisumu in December.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko says the president will pitch tent at Kisii and Nyamira Counties on January 23rd and 24th in which he will address development issues.

"The president will be coming to Kisii and Nyamira on January 23rd. He will be initiating various development activities across the two counties as part of handshake.

"I am hopeful that as local leadership, we should set aside our differences and unite behind a common purpose. Our community needs to wake up and stand to be counted," he said on a phone call.

During the Kisumu trip, ODM leader Raila Odinga hinted about the trip, saying that his first stop over with the president would be in Kisii and Nyamira Counties.

The trip, Nyamoko says, would give the Gusii community a sense of belonging given that it's the fifth largest voting block in the country.

"The president is very much welcome. The two counties are populous and as leaders, we are optimistic that development is uniting us. He will meet all of us before addressing various rallies."

At Kisumu, Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and James Ongwae (Kisii) met the president and shared the agenda even though they had been ordered out of State House meeting earlier.
