Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka's struggle to ascend to power in 2013 was dealt a major blow after attempts to meet the then President Mwai Kibaki proved futile.
It is recorded that Kalonzo wanted to meet Kibaki to assist him clear his name after the then Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission under Bethwel Kiplagat claimed that he had grabbed a piece of land in Meru.
The Ukambani political kingpin found himself in a difficult position to convince Kenyans to back his presidency when he was at the center of land grabbing.
In his book, Against All Odds, Kalonzo writes that he has never grabbed land in Meru, stating he was being blackmailed.
“The Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission under Bethwel Kiplagat had released a report which mentioned me adversely in a matter that I knew nothing about,” Kalonzo wrote.
Kalonzo later decided to join the Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The duo then formed the Coalition for Restoration of Democracy (CORD) with Raila as the presidential candidate and Kalonzo his running mate.
The two, however, lost the presidency to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
Kalonzo has since declared that he will be contesting for the nation's top seat in 2022.
