Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has hit out at politicians criticising Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for representing Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu in court.
The youthful senator says that there is nothing wrong with Kalonzo and other NASA politicians representing Mwilu.
Speaking to journalists in Nairobi on Thursday, the Makueni senator further rubbished claims that opposition politicians have vested interests in representing Mwilu in court over corruption allegations facing her.
“There is nothing wrong with Kalonzo, Orengo or myself representing the DCJ in court and people should stop these petty issues,” he said.
Mutula Junior said that as lawyers, they have a right and duty to represent any accused person.
The Makueni senator said that they are not out to politicise the war on ongoing corruption.
“We support the war on corruption but it has to be done in line with the law,” he said.
The senator said that the law does not allow for a sitting Judge to be presented in court.
He said that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) should have handled DCJ Mwilu’s case.
A section of politicians has criticised Kalonzo and other NASA lawyers for representing Mwilu.
The politicians allege that Kalonzo is defending the Deputy Chief Justice.
Mwilu was arrested on Tuesday over graft-related offences and is out on Sh 5 Million personal bond.
On Wednesday, the High court sitting in Nairobi suspended her prosecution until October 9.
