President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga are said to have secretly met in Mombasa last week.
Reports said Kenyatta was in Mombasa for unofficial five-day stay before being joined by Odinga on Thursday.
"The top leaders’ visit to the region which ended Saturday was shrouded in secrecy, with their handlers terming it “not official”," Daily Nation reported on Sunday.
Kenyatta was keenly monitoring operations at the Mombasa port during the visit after Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) board appointed Dr Daniel Manduku as the acting managing director days after Catherine Mturi-Wairi was suspended.
Odinga and Uhuru also reportedly held meetings on national issues including a meeting with leaders of the Building Bridges initiative committee, lawyers Paul Mwangi and Martin Kimani.
After he completed the five-day stay, Kenyatta flew to Nakuru County where he paid a courtesy call to former President Daniel Moi at his Kabarak home while Odinga flew to Kisumu.
"Called on former President Daniel Moi at his home in Kabarak on my way to the burial ceremony of the late Mrs. Sarah Jerop Kasaon," Uhuru said on his Facebook page after meeting Moi.
A partnership between the two leaders started when they ended their political rivalry on March 9, when they met for a handshake and signed a peace pact for the country.
