Deputy President William Ruto for the first time in as many months shared a platform with Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju after several months of perceived disquiet.
In December 2018, the DP came under onslaught waged by President Uhuru Kenyatta's lieutenant David Murathe over his viability to participate in 2022 presidential race, a narrative that was also backed by Tuju, a minister without portfolio.
And at Jubilee Party headquarters on Friday, the two shared podium where they handed over nomination certificate to Ahmed Kolosh for Wajir West by-election slated April 25th this year.
Ruto wrote on Facebook: "The Jubilee Party will contest the Wajir West constituency by-election on a platform of issues, ideas, sound policy and service delivery aligned to the Big Four. It champions equity; inclusivity and a robust development agenda. Presented Jubilee's nomination certificate to Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed, Pangani, Nairobi County."
At a funeral in Rarieda last year in December, Tuju insisted that the DP was not an automatic successor of President Uhuru Kenyatta, eliciting anger from a section of Ruto backers led by Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi.
“We have a President who is the party leader and a Deputy President who is the deputy party leader. We also have a Constitution showing how we appoint our presidential candidate. As far as I am concerned, nothing has changed,” Mr Tuju said.
Jubilee party has been exposed to internal wrangles following the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to work with his political nemesis Raila Odinga, a move that caught many politicians unaware last year on March.
Mr Tuju, who is keen to run for Siaya gubernatorial seat, has been seen with Raila Odinga often with their latest meeting being last week at Kisumu where they inspected ongoing clearing of water hyacinth in Lake Victoria.
