The US government had planned to institute a tough punishment for opposition leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula should all the four have attended the event in which Raila was sworn in as the people's president.
According to Amani National Congress (ANC) Leader Musalia Mudavadi, the US before the swearing had advised that should all the four go for the inauguration they would have been branded as warlords and their visas suspended.
In in interview with NTV, Mudavadi reiterated that their agreement with Raila was that the swearing in be called off but they were surprised when they heard that Raila had been sworn in at Uhuru Park during the event that was held on January 30th.
"The Americans said as the opposition NASA, you have genuine reasons on the need for electoral justice, have victims of post-election violence compensated and the need to reconstitute the IEBC," the ANC leader said.
"But if the swearing-in continues, Washington will not help. You will cease from being political leaders to warlords. This would have meant our visas would have been suspended."
Mudavadi and Wetangula maintain that Raila shortchanged them with Kalonzo for the sake of redeeming his image before NASA supporters who had jammed Uhuru Park for the swearing in.
