The political contest for the Embakasi South by-election has gained momentum as candidates start drumming up for support.

The by-election is set for April 5.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has so far cleared several candidates for the by-election.

Here is the list of candidates who have so far been cleared by IEBC to contest for the seat.

1. Julius Mawathe - Wiper Democratic Movement Party 

2. Irshad Mohamed Sumra - Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)

3. Rameshchandra Gorasia - Democratic Party of Kenya.

4. Jefferson Kasingu - KANU

5. Alexander Mutisya - Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCCP)

6. Angelina Mwikali - Thirdway Alliance

7. Jairus Mulei Musyoka - Independent candidate.

The parliamentary seat was declared vacant after the Supreme Court nullified Julius Mawathe’s victory on grounds it was not free and fair.

Former MP Irshad Mohamed Sumra filed the election petition against Mawathe.
