Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has hailed ODM Party leader Raila Odinga's appointment as the African Union (AU) envoy.
Governor Ngilu notes that Raila’s appointment has come at the right time and will benefit Kenya and Africa.
The Kitui governor also says Raila’s appointment will boost Kenyan close ties with African nations.
“It is a timely appointment and as leaders, we wish him all the best as he takes up the position,” Ngilu said.
He addressed the press in Kitui town on Wednesday.
The NARC governor asked Raila to use the position to push for Kenya's interests in the region.
“Our key message to Raila is that he should do everything and put our country to the continental map,” Ngilu added.
Ngilu asked politicians to stop debating the appointment and instead give the former Prime Minister ample time to work.
“There is no point of discussing whether Raila should quit politics or not, it does not help,” she said.
Raila landed the AU job last week.
The former PM's appointment has been confirmed by AU chair Moussa Faki.
Raila has since accepted the appointment that will see him take charge of AU’s Infrastructure and development docket.
Politicians across the divide among them Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have since congratulated the former Prime Minister.
