Fresh details indicate that Migori Governor Okoth Obado still has his hands in the looming Migori Senatorial by-election, even as he remains remanded at the Nairobi Industrial Area prison.

Obado has repeatedly opposed the area's dominant Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party's attempts to defend the seat, terming its nomination process dictatorial and undemocratic.

Consequently, he has ended up supporting the rival, Eddy Oketch of the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK).

He has expressed displeasure with ODM's direct nomination of former Cabinet Minister Ochilo Ayacko for the seat left vacant after the death of Senator Ben Okello, landing him in trouble with the party leadership.

And with him in no position to support Oketch now, the county boss is using his allies to drum up support for the youthful candidate, some of whom are currently part of Oketch's campaign team, reports the Saturday Standard.

But the Orange party is also not leaving anything to chance and has been engaging in vigorous campaigns to guarantee Ayacko the seat in the October 8 by-election.

To ensure that his party is not humiliated by the newcomer, the party boss and opposition leader Raila Odinga is expected to tour the county next week to drum up support for his candidate as the campaign window approaches.

Obado initially backed former Rongo lawmaker Dalmas Otieno for the ODM ticket before he was nominated into the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

He is reportedly the force behind Oketch's billboards and campaign trucks, all in a bid to turn tables on Ayacko.

Obado is facing murder charges after being implicated in the killing of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

His bail determination will be made on October 8, the same day the Migori Senatorial by-election will go down.
