National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has jetted out of the country.
The opposition leader, who left on Sunday, has a tight schedule abroad and is expected to be away for about a week.
Raila's spokesperson Dennis Onyango said among the reasons the ODM leader flew out was to attend the burial of former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan in Accra, Ghana.
Annan will be laid to rest in the West African country on Thursday, September 13, 2018.
"Odinga left the country this afternoon for a brief stop-over in the United Arab Emirates before proceeding to Ghana for Dr Annan’s burial on Thursday," Onyango said in a statement to newsrooms.
To confirm his departure, Raila took to his official Twitter https://mobile.twitter.com/RailaOdinga/status/1038821423916244992?p=v handle to announce that after Annan's burial he will proceed to the United States to deliver keynote lectures at two universities.
"Departing to attend the burial of former UN Secretary-General Dr. Kofi Annan in Ghana before proceeding to the U.S. to deliver lectures at Duke University in North Carolina, the George Washington University and at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a non-profit think tank," he posted.
The former Prime Minister will also meet and discuss various issues with American leaders before returning to the country.
"While in the US, Odinga is also scheduled to hold talks with government and business leaders," Onyango added.
Raila left the country moments after President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived from Kigali, Rwanda where he had attended the Africa Green Revolution meeting.
