ODM Party leader Raila Odinga on Monday faced open defiance from a section of Ombeyi residents in Muhoroni Constituency.

Odinga was heckled by those opposed to the establishment of a Special Economic Zone project in Ombeyi Ward when he spoke on the need to free up 500 acres of land in order to make the project a reality.

That notwithstanding, Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization, Trade and Cooperatives Peter Munya literally stole the show as residents applauded his every utterance.

“The government is ready to build a factory here so that youth can get job opportunities,” Munya said amid reassuring claps and whistles from locals.

The former Meru Governor seemed well prepared to address the residents as each of his sentiments were received positively.

“In Naivasha, construction has already started. In Lamu, construction is starting. And you in Kisumu do you want to remain behind?” he paused. “No. We do not want to lag behind,” the residents replied in unison.

The CS further said that he fully supports President Uhuru Kenyatta and Odinga’s bid to unite Kenyans through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

“We support you and President Kenyatta as you unite Kenyans. We do not want this issue of dividing Kenyans.  We also refuse corruption,” said the CS.

“That is true,” the residents shot back.
