A section of supporters of Deputy President William Ruto has come to his defence over allegations that he illegally acquired the land on which he built the Weston hotel in Nairobi.
The reaction came amid news that the National Land Commission (NLC) had acknowledged that the land belongs to the government and that it was acquired illegally by Dr Ruto.
Besides, the commission outlined that since the DP has already spent close to a billion shillings to construct and renovate the hotel, it will be a huge loss to demolish it.
The DP's supporters argue that the graft issues surrounding the land on which the hotel is built have taken a political twist.
Simon Magut, a newspaper vendor in Eldoret town said; "the National Land Commission has made the right decision to order the Deputy President to retain the land and pay the government an equal amount worth the land, so people should stop insulting the DP."
"The issue is now settled, Dr Ruto is not a corrupt leader and he is a law-abiding citizen," said Agnes Arusei, a supporter of DP in Eldoret.
