After four years of waiting, county government of Nyamira was cleared by Senate's Public Accounts and Investment Committee over controversy surrounding Sh7 million Nyamira Hospital gate.
So divisive was the project that taxpayers piled pressure on Auditor General to investigate controversy surrounding spending in the project, thus the subsequent audit query.
Senators Kimani Wamatangi and Moses Kajwang argued that documents submitted before the committee explains in details on how the money was spent, adding that audit query should not have been raised after all.
"The slight omission on specifics including construction of waiting bay, CCTVs etcetera are not captured as part of the project," Wamatangi said.
"We are satisfied that no money was lost since the gate involved some other projects which can be traced. Audit query should have not come out after all," added Kajwang.
Governor John Nyagarama, Health minister Douglas Bosire, Public Works boss John Omanwa and treasury boss Lawrence Nyangena were grilled at the Senate on Tuesday.
Since 2014, Nyagarama's adminstration has struggled to explain the project and his critics have often used it to ridicule him on development.
Area Senator Okong'o Mogeni had requested the committee to grill the governor on a number of issues he felt deserved questions.
"We must ensure spending has a significant transformation on the ground. If we don't see anything substantive, we shall continue asking questions," he said.
