Students who benefited from Sh131 million Nyamira County bursary scheme will after all have money channeled to their respective schools, Hivisasa can now authoritatively report.
There were concerns that the money might have been diverted to other projects, a move that irked several county officials along with MCAs. The assembly had passed all regulations for disbursement of the funds.
On Monday, education minister Gladys Momanyi will have a motion of impeachment against her tabled in the assembly. MCAs accuse her of the alleged abuse of office and misconduct.
"I can assure you that the money was diverted for other functions. They only focus on projects where it's easier to get kickbacks. It's very disappointing that our children are yet to receive the funds," a top official claimed.
So divisive had been the delay, that a section of county residents threatened to mobilise for demonstrations against the education ministry.
But education minister Gladys Momanyi on Saturday blamed MCAs for the delay, adding that they had not passed an important regulation for utilisation of the money.
"To my knowledge, Controller of Budget is looking at our requisition. MCAs delayed in passing of important legislations on the usage of the money. The money is in the bank and isn't missing as some of you are claiming," she said.
The education ministry has been heaped with a myriad of challenges in the recent weeks. On Friday, it emerged that several ECDE centres were in a pathetic condition.
