Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has issued a tough warning to Machakos County doctors.
This is after a viral video circulated online showing a woman giving birth unattended at Shalom Hospital in Athi River as nurse’s watched.
In a video recorded by the woman’s husband, the nurses were taking tea while looking on at the helpless woman.
Mutua on Monday warned that his administration will not tolerate any negligent doctor adding that money should never be given priority over human life.
“Healthcare is a fundamental right. Money should NOT take precedence over respect of human life. You either do things well in Machakos County or you ship out. Dr. Alfred N. Mutua Governor of Machakos” he tweeted.
DCI detectives arrested the negligent nurses at the Hospital on Monday following calls by Kenyans to apprehend the medics for sleeping on their jobs.
Before the arrests, the Machakos County boss had invited the police to apprehend those responsible. These calls led to the arrest of two of the nurses who will face criminal charges.
Mutua further wants the owner/directors of the hospitals to be charged with negligence.
He also invited the office of the DCI to investigate the conduct of the doctors in the hospital
“INVITATION OF THE DIRECTORATE OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS (DCI) to conduct further investigations, with the possibility of CHARGING the Directors/Owners of Shalom hospital with Criminal Negligence and other crimes,” he said.
