Instead, Orengo asks Odinga's critics to ready for him since the appointment doesn't 'change the political status, only that it gives him a recognition as statesman'.

“It does not take away in any form or shape his current political status in Kenya and his political state in the rest of the world. I am excited that his statesmanship has been recognised even as he remains active in politics.

"Those who think that he's living are dreaming. Those are illusions. He is in politics and will be running his affairs just as usual," he noted.

At a rally in Kapsabet on Sunday, a section of leaders led by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei asked Mr. Odinga to exit from active politics.

"He has a big job now. He should concentrate on it since it's continental and leave local politics for us," he said.

Mr. Odinga has been assigned offices at Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Abuja, Johannesburg and Cairo.

He accepted the appointment during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega on Saturday.
