Passionate appeal by Rift Valley politicians informed President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision to suspend ongoing evictions from Mau Forest, a Jubilee politician has revealed.
Over 5,000 families have already been kicked out of the forest despite vehement opposition from a section of Rift Valley politicians.
And Patrick Osero, a seasoned politician from Nyamira and a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta said the process was stopped to allow further consultations.
"There was human aspect of the grievances that made the president to stop the exercise such as lack of alternative accommodation for evictees.
"We also have school going children who were severely affected. The matter will now be looked at afresh but ultimately, the government will still execute it after agreements from both sides," he said.
Earlier, a State House source revealed that President Uhuru had secretly stopped the exercise due to pressure from his lieutenants from Rift Valley.
Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen led a team of leaders in condemning the evictions and blamed provincial adminstration of 'inhumane' acts.
But Narok County leaders led by Senator Ledama Ole Kina threatened of Monday to evict the occupants should the government stop the process.
