During President Uhuru Kenyatta cabinet mini-reshuffle on Friday, the sacking of Sports Cabinet secretary Rashid Echesa attracted a lot of public eyes.
The reshuffle comes a day after President Uhuru said he will take the fight against corruption a notch higher when he was speaking in Murang'a.
Many Kenyans believe the President has shown a good intent however sacking former CS Echesa was not considered a big statement against the fight for corruption.
Renowned Scholar Makau Mutua, who on Thursday asked the President to stop lamenting and take a bold step to dissolve his cabinet and fire top civil servants if he is serious in fighting corruption, felt sacking Echesa will not have any effect in the fight against graft.
The scholar opines the President has left most corrupt cabinet secretaries in office hence the need for a complete overhaul if corruption needs to be fought seriously.
"It’s a very low bar — or none — for integrity when President Uhuru Kenyatta sacks only Richard Echesa. He has left the most corrupt ministers in place. He must completely clean house to prove he’s serious about fighting corruption," reads a Twitter statement by Prof Makau Mutua.
Former presidential candidate Martha Karua also shared the same opinion.
