Nairobi governor Mike Sonko is not new in the field of political controversy.
The vocal and flamboyant governor has on several occasions found himself in trouble over his political statements and actions.
Sonko who is ranked among the country’s wealthiest politicians has however never been afraid of speaking his mind.
On October 15, 2016, Sonko found himself in trouble when he allegedly declared himself president.
It was during former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti’s husband's Dolamu Oduwale’s burial in Kenanie, Machakos, when Sonko shocked Kenyans by allegedly declaring himself president.
In a video that went viral, he claimed he was the acting president since president Uhuru Kenyatta was on an official trip in Togo and the Deputy President (DP) William Ruto was in France.
Sonko claimed that in the absence of Uhuru and Ruto he was in charge of the country.
“Since the president and his deputy are out of the country on official duties, I am officially the third person in command,” Sonko told mourners.
The governor made the claims in presence of opposition leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula.
