Mwaura was first nominated to the National Assembly by Raila's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party before decamping to the ruling Jubilee Party before the 2017 polls.

In an interview on Radio Jambo's 'Mazungumzo Waziwazi' Saturday morning, he said that no love has been lost between the two, terming the changes a slight political part way.

"Sisi na Raila ni marafiki kwa wale wanaodhani eti sasa tumekosana. Historia yetu inajulikana (we are still close friends despite out different political paths)," he said.

The leader lauded Raila for his ongoing political romance with President Uhuru Kenyatta, founded after their March 9 truce where they shelved their political rivalry.

He also hailed the African Union Chief of Infrastructure Development for agreeing to join hands with Uhuru who defeated him in the 2017 elections, terming him a real statesman.

"Sio rahisi kushikana mikono na mtu aliyekushinda katika uchaguzi, haswa ukizingatia kwamba wakati mwingi chaguzi hizi huwa si za haki. Hata hivyo, amefanya hivyo.

(Its not easy for a person to accept defeat and embrace the person who defeated him, especially in Kenya where most elections are never fair)," he added.

In the spirit of the handshake, Raila on Thursday and Friday hosted Uhuru in his Luo Nyanza backyard, where they vowed to stick together in pursuit of cohesion.
