The disbursement which was led by area member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri, is part of the government's initiative of fighting poverty through women and youth empowerment.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ngunjiri said the groups were selected having met all the requirements especially by repaying their previous loans on time.

"The 12 groups have been funded depending on how much they requested for and their previous loan repayment formula and timespan," he said.

The MP called on youth to reconsider applying for these interest-free loans to help them start businesses so that they become independent instead of engaging in crime.

"Now that white-collar jobs have become elusive, it is time to form groups and seek funding from the government for entrepreneurship purposed other than engaging in what will never add value to your lives," the legislature noted.

The Uwezo Fund has disbursed Sh17.6 million in Bahati this financial year to be distributed in four phases; Sh6.6 million in the first phase, Sh5.6 million in the second while the third and fourth phases will receive Sh4.7 and Sh5.5 million respectively.
