Mutunga said that the region do not have enough court rooms. He blamed few number of courts to insufficient funding in the Judiciary.

“Traditionally Judiciary has been under funded either out of neglect or practical attempt to undermine its independence,” said Mutunga.

Some of the areas where the courts will be constructed include Siaya, Malaba, Budalangi, Maseno, Ukwala, Webuye, Sotik, Kilgoris, Kapsabet, Kapenguria, Homa Bay and Mbita.

Mutunga noted that in some court clerks, magistrates and judges take turns to carry court sessions.

"We have responded to the need of infrastructure by keenly listening to peoples petition countrywide. The construction has already commenced in Bungoma, Khamisi, Butere, Nyando, Oyugis, Kakamega, Muhoroni and Nyamira," said Mutunga.

Dr Mutunga was speaking during the official opening of the Kisumu law court, where he said that the court opening is a milestone in the judiciary journey to resource justice by providing infrastructure necessary to public justice.

"This Court of Appeal serves 15 counties including Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori Nyamira, Kisii, Bomet, Kericho, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Transmara," notes Mutunga.

He said that the judiciary will continue to rise to whatever challenges and changing circumstances involved.

"We will ask for more money so that we can be able to deliver justice fast,” said Mutunga.
